Study on the imaging manifestation and clinical characteristics of prolactinoma

Objective To explore the relationship between the imaging characteristics,serum prolactin levels,clinical manifestation and the treatment outcome of patients with prolactinoma.Methods A total of 84 patients with prolactinoma admitted to our department were studied according to gender.The relationship between the clinical manifestations,endocrinology disorder,image characteristics and the treatment were compared and evaluated.ResultsHigh serum prolactin level was more observed in male patients(69.6%) than in female patients(40.9%).Those patients with pituitary tumors invaded into the cavernous sinus usually presented a high level of prolactin in blood serum and it affected the outcome of the male patients.While the prolactin levels were related with the tuwor growth pattern,not the tumor size,in female patients.Conclusion The comprehensive evaluation of the prolactin level,the imaging characteristics and tumor growth manner are important for the choice of therapy and improving the treatment outcome of prolactinoma.
