Improving Vitamin D Deficiency Identification/Treatment in Hip Fracture Patients
2016
Abstract Vitamin D deficiency, although a contributor to falls and fractures, is not routinely assessed in patients hospitalized with a hip fracture. We found that the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in this patient population was 33%, and the baseline rate of vitamin D testing was 3.5%. A quality improvement project resulted in practice change that increased rates of measurement to 98% and vitamin D supplement initiation to 93%.
