Survey of Tuberculosis Knowledge among the Public in Chaoyang District,Beijing

Objective To understand the level of tuberculosis(TB) knowledge among the public in Chaoyang district of Beijing,and to evaluate the effect of TB health promotion in Chaoyang district, find and resolve the existing problems. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among people selected by multistage stratified random sampling, and the information collected from questionnaires was analyzed. Results A total of 1 727 persons were investigated,and the awareness rate of tuberculosis knowledge was 77.0%.97.1%of the 1 727 persons had obtained the knowledge of TB control and prevention .The main approaches for acquiring knowledge about TB were radio and television program, and the latter programs was more popular than any other approaches.The awareness rate of TB knowledge was higher in women than in men,in senior high school education level group than in other education level groups,in 60 years old and above group than in other age groups,in retirement group than in other occupation groups. Among all the questions,the awareness of the knowledge on TB control and prevention was highest,and that of policy of free TB services was lowest . Conclusion Health promotion had positive impact in Chaoyang district .Education about TB control and prevention policy should be strengthened.Health education should be focused on certain groups such as the unemployment, salesclerks,service workers, farmers, foresters, herdsman and fishers.
