Individual Pharmaceutical Care for Diabetic Patients by Short Massage Service

2010
OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of clinical pharmacists applying individual pharmaceutical care by short message service(SMS). METHODS:A total of 64 patients with type 2 diabetes were assigned into trial group(n=30,20 males and 10 fe- males)or control group(n=34,16 males and 18 females). In trial group, clinical pharmacists provided individual pharmaceutical care by SMS for 3 months. The content of messages included medication reminders, useful drug information and diabetes education, etc. The control group received regular treatment. 2 groups were followed up after 3 months through telephone. The glycemic control of 2 groups and the effect of SMS were evaluated. RESULTS:The mean score of pharmaceutical care through SMS in trial group was(8.93±0.22)point. The levels of fasting blood glucose and post-meal glucose were(6.89±1.33)mmol·L-1 and (8.72±1.59)mmol·L-1 after intervention, which were extremely lower than before intervention(P0.01). The levels of fasting blood glucose and post-meal glucose were(6.96±1.23)mmol·L-1 and(8.84±1.47)mmol·L-1,which were significantly lower than before intervention(P0.05). There was no significant difference between 2 groups. The detection rate of HbA1c in trial group increased by 12.7%,compared with control group. CONCLUSION:SMS can improve the glycemic control and self-man- agement of patients. It is an effective way to provide individual pharmaceutical care by clinical pharmacists.
