Manufacture of neutron shielding pipe

PURPOSE: To provide a material absorbing/shielding a neutron, a pipe made of this material, and a manufacturing method for them. CONSTITUTION: A hollow thin long metallic ingot 16, which is generally formed into a rectangle, is formed, while in the inside of the ingot 16, at least two chambers 28, 30 are formed by installing at least one thin long metallic partition, and the chambers 28, 30 are filled with a substantially uniformly dispersed mixture of a fine neutron absorbing arsenic compound and fine metallic powder. The ingot 16 is soaked and heated to a high temperature less than the melting temperature for the metallic powder. Then, hot rolling is carried out, and thin hard neutron absorbing sheets 12, 14, in each of which metal end parts are provided in the opposite positions and a thin long metallic spacer part 40 is provided in the position of the metallic partition 26, are formed. Subsequently, the sheets 12, 14 are bent in the longitudinal direction in the respective spacer parts 40, and one or more of bent sheets 12, 14 are welded together along the side end parts so as to be formed into a pipe/pipes 10.
