Study of the effect of internal carotid artery diseases on cerebral hemodynamics

1993
: The cerebral artery system is richly anastomosed. These anastomoses can compensate for the effects of a stenosis or an occlusion of the internal carotid artery. In addition, control of cerebral blood flow occurs via a double process of haemodynamic and metabolic adaptation to a drop in perfusion pressure. Direct or indirect measurement of the cerebral perfusion reserve can evaluate the haemodynamic effects of an internal carotid stenosis.
