Knowledge Regarding Selected Water Borne Diseases among the Class IV Workers Working in Selected Hospitals

Every year more than 5 million human being die from illness linked to unsafe drinking water, unclean domestic environment and improper excreta disposal. In fact over 2 million deaths occur each year. As a result of water borne diseases are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality around the world. Considering this fact a study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding selected water borne diseases among class workers working in selected hospitals. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among 100 class IV workers working from Hospitals Non Probability purposive sampling method was used to select the samples. A self structured questionnaire was prepared to collect the data from the respondents. The study was approved by Research review Committee of the institution and written informed consent was taken from the participants before actual data collection. Result: The study found that majority (51%) of class IV workers had poor knowledge. (46%) of them had average knowledge and only (3%) class IV workers had good knowledge regarding water borne diseases. Conclusion: Over all class IV workers had poor knowledge regarding selected water borne diseases. It is recommended to conduct planned teaching program and provide health education regarding prevention of water borne diseases and create awareness.
