Gallstones: an update.

Abstract Gallstones are a major health problem in the United States. More than 20 million Americans have gallstones, and a million new cases are discovered each year. A resurgence of interest in this field has been stimulated by advances in understanding the pathogenesis of cholesterol gallstones and in nonsurgical treatments. The purpose of this symposium is to update these advances.
