Electromagnetic material parameter extraction of ferrites up to the GHz range via measurements and simulations

A new methodology is presented for determination of electromagnetic material parameters μ and e for typical ferrite core geometries used in electronic and power electronic systems. The material parameters of a measurement sample are determined in such a way that measurements and simulations of the impedance have a maximum match in a broad frequency range. The extracted material parameters show that at high frequencies in the GHz range dielectric properties of the investigated MnZn ferrite core are significant. The simulated impedance parameters of a structure containing the ferrite are in good agreement with simulation showing the usability of the method.
