Urine sediment (US) in the diagnosis of acute renal insufficiency

1988
Abnormalities on urine sediment (US) are generally related to parenhimatous renal disease. Exceptions are some pathologic conditions in the inferior urinary tracts. With regard to their ethyopathogenesis, certain nephropathies have a characteristic cytologic pattern in US by which they are recognised. In the period from 1984-1987, we analysed the urine sediments (US)by conventional microscopy and supravital colouring in 88 patients with acute renal insufficiency ; 28 had their own kidney and 60 had renal transplant. This way of US testing presents simple, quick, non-invasive, inexpensive and a relatively specific diagnostic method in nephropathology.
