Role of insulin receptor substrate 2 in pancreatic β-cell

2009
Insulin receptor substrate-2(IRS-2) ,which plays an important role in insulin and insu-lin-like growth factor signaling pathways, engages in the promotion of β-cell replication, neogenesis and sur-vival ,and has close relationship with β-cell survival, insulin resistantee and apoptosis. Complete IRS-2 path-ways is critical for survival of pancreatic islet β-cell and significant for regulation of peripheral insulin signals and β-cell mass and function. Disruption of IRS-2 pathways that leads to acquired inadequate and dysfunction of β-cell contributes to the pathophysiology of human type 2 diabetes. New therapeutic targets for type 2 dia -betes will be provided through advanced recognition on IRS-2 pathways. Key words: Insulin receptor substrate 2 ;  Pancreatic β-cell ;  Diabetes mellitus
