Relationship between digoxin concentration in serum and saliva in infants

1981
SALIVA SAMPLING is a noninvasive and useful technique in pharmacokinetics research and in clinical work, since the concentrations in saliva of some drugs, such as xanthines and anticonvulsants, are well correlated with their concentrations in serum. 1 Jusko et aP found a significant correlation between saliva and serum digoxin concentration in adults receiving long-term digoxin therapy, but interpatient variation was great, and the relationship was hardly predictive. The present study was designed to evaluate whether a correlation of saliva and serum digoxin concentrations is present in infants.
