An examination of 1--60 TeV gamma ray interactions in emulsion detectors

1992
Gamma rays with energy up to 60 TeV observed in balloon-borne emulsion chambers are studied to measure the cross sections for hadron production, bremsstrahlung, and pair production processes. The present study provides an opportunity to investigate hadronic and electromagnetic processes at energies above those available from existing accelerators, using track-sensitive detectors to examine the products of the primary interaction vertices, which are not directly observed by ground-based cosmic ray experiments.
