Evaluation of corrosion behaviour of Cu-Al-Be-Mn Quaternary shape memory alloys

2017
Abstract Cu-Al-Be-Mn quaternary shape memory alloy of 10-13% weight % of aluminum, 0.4-0.6% weight of beryllium, 0.2-0.3% weight % of manganese and remaining copper was prepared by ingot metallurgy. At higher temperature these shape memory alloys exhibits β phase and on quenching to lower temperature they manifest shape memory effect. The shape memory effect of the alloys was verified by bend test. The corrosion behaviors of the alloys were then studied in Hank’s solution, ocean water and in fresh water. The results from these specimens help to find their applications in different environmental conditions.
