Clinical analysis of 24 patients with pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma

2013
Objective To improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma(PSH).Methods The clinical data of 24 patients with PSH were collected to analyze their clinical features, lung imaging, pathology, treatment and prognosis. Results There were five male and nineteen female patients aged from 15 to 75 years old. Most of them(66.67%) showed asymptomatic and the rest non-special symptoms included cough(18.18%),expectoration(12.5%) and blood-stained sputum(8.33%).The image examination showed round or ovoid masses at peripheral region of lung.Nine patients were diagnosed as malignancy and two of them with multiple masses were considered as primary lung cancer with contralateral pulmonary metastasis.9 patients received lumpectomy, and the other surgery included wedge resection resection, lobectomy and radical surgery. The routine pathology was diagnosed as PSH after operation. There was no PSH relapse or metastasis in eighteen patients who were followed-up.Conclusion PSH is considered as a rare benign tumor with high incidence in women, and most patients with PSH are asymptomatic. The prognosis of PSH is favorable but it is hard to diagnose PSH before surgery, which is necessary to diagnose and treat PSH.
