Low dose of sodium hypochlorite impair lung function, inflammation and oxidative stress of naïve mice

2019
Background: Acute or chronic exposures to an irritant, such as sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) can induce occupational asthma. Aim: To explore the consequences of acute and chronic exposures to low dose NaClO on functional and on histological parameters of naive mice. Methods: 1st phase: mice were divided in 4 groups (GP): non-NaClO (SAL); acute NaClO 0.03, 0.3 and 1%. 2nd phase: 2 GP: non-NaClO and chronic 1%NaClO (8weeks, 5d/w,n=6/group). Results: Acute 0.3%NaClO enhances the Rrs (p Aw-airway walls, ALW-alveolar walls. Conclusion: Acute and chronic NaClO exposures worsen lung function, induce oxidative stress activation, mucus production and alveolar destruction, contributing to augment inflammation.
