A method for performing a lateral flow immunoassay (IFL) comprising: providing a substrate; providing particles encapsulated with an antibody detection conjugate detection; providing capture antibodies in a test portion of the substrate in which both detection antibodies as capture antibodies having binding affinity for an antigen of interest; attaching the encapsulated antigen of interest with the detection antibody particles; spreading a fluid sample and encapsulated particles bound to the antigen through the substrate to the test portion of the substrate; capture the encapsulated particles and antigens in the test portion of the substrate with the capture antibodies; and observe encapsulated in the test portion of the substrate particles; wherein the detection particles having a core encapsulated nanoparticle SERS active metal selected from Au and / or Ag; multiple metal particles are included in the core; and metal nanoparticles are attached or associated with its surface one or more Raman active molecules.
