21) Innovative Sternotomy Simulation Model for Training Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Team

Purpose: Simulation has been identified as an important training method for improving patient safety and quality of care. We designed a hi-fidelity mannequin mimicking the human thorax with a median sternotomy and a heart model to reproduce cardiac tamponade. We sought to evaluate - 1) the face validity of the innovative sternotomy mannequin for cardiac tamponade scenario and 2) multi-disciplinary team training in management of cardiac tamponade in children with a sternotomy wound.
