Age is a prognostic factor for the overall survival of multiple myeloma patients undergoing upfront autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

2019
Abstract In this retrospective analysis, we evaluated the impact of age on the outcome of multiple myeloma (MM) patients who received an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HCT) at our institution. A total of 1128 patients were divided into the older (> 70 years; 182/16%) and the younger (≤ 70 years; 946/84%) groups. Compared to the younger cohort, older patients had a higher ISS stage (ISS-II 57: 31% vs 215: 23%, ISS-III 52: 28% vs 211: 22%, P = 0.01), higher use of reduced-dose melphalan as conditioning regimen (140 mg/m² 59: 32% vs 29: 3% P =
