A prospective control study of incidence and risk factors of women with abnormal gestational glucose tolerance

2007
Objective To investigate the incidence and risk factors of abnormal gestational glucose tolerance (GDM GIGT) . Methods A prospective case-control study was performed in 59 women with abnormal gestational glucose tolerance (31 GDM and 29 GIGT) and 110 of normal oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) from June 2005 to December 2005 in Taiyuan Maternal and Infant Health Care Hospital. The risk factors of the two groups were compared. Results The incidence of abnormal gestational glucose metabolism was 7.6%, including 4.0% of GDM and 3.6% GIGT. Pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), gestational weight gains, family history of diabetes mellitus, history of poor pregnant outcome, age≥30, HBsAg(+) were significantly higher in GDM/GIGT than those of control group (P0.05). Conclusions The incidence of abnormal gestational glucose tolerance in our hospital is similar to that in Beijing. Therefore it is necessary to conduct screening of GDM in Shanxi province.
