Tolbutamide-Induced Hypoglycemia

2016
THE VALUE of the sulfonylurea compounds as effective hypoglycemic agents, with a relatively low incidence of side effects, has been well established. However, prolonged hypoglycemia accompanying the use of these agents in diabetic, as well as nondiabetic, patients recently has been emphasized.1-4 It is the purpose of this communication to record another instance of prolonged tolbutamide-induced hypoglycemia characterized by persistent high serum levels of the sulfonylurea after discontinuation of the medication.
