A Rare Association between Hepatitis B Virus Vaccination and Guillain-Barré Syndrome-A Case Report

1989
A 5-year-old boy having no history of preceding infection developed ascending motor paralysis 12 days after the first dose of the hepatitis-B vaccine. The symptom became the worst at the ninth day then subsided gradually. Three months later, the neurologic sign turned almost normal. The cerebrospinal fluid showed albuminocytologic dissociation and the electrophysiologic study revealed evidence of polyradiculoneuropathy. We present this case to warn the clinicians of the possibility of this neurologic syndrome after hepatitis-B virus vaccination.
