[Lung cancer after Hodgkin's disease].

Patients with Hodgkin’s disease develop lung cancer at a rate two to eight times that of the general population (15). A portion of this increase might be related to thoracic radiotherapy (6,7) and, possibly, to chemotherapy (6). To provide additional quantitative data on the risk of lung cancer after Hodgkin’s disease, we conducted a survey of more than 13000 patients reported to selected population-based cancer registries within the United States. We included all patients diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease as a first primary cancer who survived 2 or more months and were reported to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program (1973-1991) or to the earlier years of the Connecticut Tumor Registry (1935-1972).
