109 Early effects of mitral valve repair in patients with left ventricular dysfunction: an echocardiographic study

2007
Abstract To evaluate the effects of mitral valve repair in patients with severe left ventricular (LV) dysfunction early clinical and echocardiographic changes were compared in 30 consecutive patients undergoing mitral valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation: 15 had baseline LV ejection fraction 0.55 (group II). One group-I patient died in intensive care unit for multi-organ-failure (MOF). At 3 months follow-up LV end systolic volumes decreased in both groups while only in group I LV ejection fraction significantly increased (from 35 to 41% p< 0.02). Mitral valve repair in patients with preoperative severe left ventricular dysfunction is associated with a significant early LV remodeling associated with significant clinical improvement.
