Study on Big Data-Supported Clinical Oncology

Population health is the most important issue for social well-being, which is closely related to national economic development and social progress, and a great concern of governments around the world. There are millions of new cancer cases in China every year, and the incidence is increasing year by year. Cancer has become a common disease and the leading cause of death in China, transcending cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. With the rapid development of big data and cloud computing technologies, their application in basic medicine, clinical medicine, and public health is rapidly expanding. This chapter mainly introduces the importance of big data to the development of oncology; the key technologies for the development of oncology big data; the framework of big data platforms for oncology and how it would work for oncologic clinical practice and researches; and the current status and challenges facing cancer big data, as well as perspectives to its future development.
