Relationship between serum NT-proBNP level and diastolic function in eldly patients with systemic aterial hypertension

2011
Objective To evaluate the relationship between serum N-terminal-pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) levels and ventricular diastolic function in eldly patients with systemic aterial hypertension. Methods We enrolled 254 patients with systemic aterial hypertension. All patients were older than 60 years old, without diagnosed heart disease, cerebral artery disease or renal insufficiency.Serum NT-proBNP level were measured in every patient.Ventricular function was evaluated by echocardiography and tissue doppler image(TDI).Results The increase of NT-proBNP levels has a positive correlation with age and history of hypertension(P0.01,P0.05),and has a negative correlation with usage of calcium antagonist(P0.05).Also the increase has a positive correlation with E/A ratio,E/Ea ratio, left atrium volume and IVRT(P0.05,P0.01,P0.05 and P0.01,respectively).Serum NT-proBNP level was higher in concentric hypertrophy group than in eccentric hypertrophy group.(Log transformation:1.89±0.31 vs 1.87±0.37,P0.05).Conclusion Increasement of serum NT-proBNP in eldly patients was correlated with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.
