NON-LINEAR STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS OF THE FRAUGEN MONOTOWER

1994
The paper describes a series of non-linear structural dynamic analyses of the global platform behaviour. The applied loads are time histories of wave forces found to describe the linear structural response for the "ringing events" quite accurately as revealed in the model tests. Results are reported for a series of cases studying the various parameters effect on the response. Also different non-linear material descriptions for the concrete are applied. The paper concludes on response levels for bending moments which for nonlinear structural dynamics analysis are reduced in the lower part of the structure compared to applying a linear structural model, while the response in the upper part is increased. This is mainly due to a larger part of the response is taken as inertia forces at upper part of the platform including the deck.
