Systemic response tolocal uratecrystal induced inflammation inman: a possible modeltostudy the acutephase response

2011
SUMMARY Theproduction ofa systemic inflammatory responsetointradermal monosodium uratecrystal injection isdescribed. A transient, self-limiting local responseisassociated witha systemic responsedetectable byarise inthewhite cell countandserum amyloid A protein. The whitecell change parallels theevolution ofthelocal response, whereas theserum amyloid A responselagsbehind thelocal lesion, peaking after thelocal lesion isresolving. Intradermal monosodium urateinjection isproposed asapossible inflammatory stimulus toexplore theacute phaseprotein responseindifferent disease states.
