Effect of fluvastatin in patients with angina and normal serum lipid level

2008
Objective:To assess the therapeutic effect of fluvastatin in the patients with angina pectoris, however, without dyslipidemia. Methods:A cohort of 108 consecutive patients with angina pectoris but mean serum lipid was randomly assigned to fluvastatin group and control group. The former group consisting of 65 recruited patients was administered fluvastatin in addition to routine medication, whereas the latter group comprising 43 registered cases was merely offered routine remedy.Total ischemic burden(TIB)was monitored by 24-hour dynamic electrocardiogram and the ischemia related events were recorded before and 3,6 and 12 months after treatment. Results:The TIB in fiuvastatin group was less than that in control group after 6 months of management, but not to an extent with statistic difference(P0.05).By the end of 12 months of therapy,TIB in fluvastatin group was significantly less than that in control group(P0.001)and fewer ischemia involved events were observed in the fiuvastatin group(P0.005).Nevertheless,there was no significant difference in ischemia involved events between 2 groups within the initial 3 or 6 months of follow-up.Conclusion:Fluvastatin can remarkably exert beneficial effect on the patients with angina pectoris, while with normal lipidemia by anti-myocardial ischemic activity consequently reducing the incidence of ischemia related events.
