Comparison of two methods for type 2 diabetes patients: Insulin detemir combined with Insulin Aspart or Novolin R combined with Novolin N

2011
Objective To compare two methods of insulin detemir combined with Insulin Aspart and Novolin R combined with Novolin N for type 2 diabetes patients on the efficacy, safety, time of glycemic control, dosage of insulin. Methods Sixty type 2 diabetic patients were randomly divided into two groups, group A(n=30,with insulin detemir combined with Insulin Aspart) and group B(n=30,with Novolin R combined with Novolin N).Efficacy parameters before and after treatment included fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2-hour postprandial plasma glucose(2h-PPG),hypoglycemia,time of glycemic control and dosage of insulin were measured and noted. Results After treatment, both FPG and 2h-PPG significantly decreased than before(P 0.01).But there was no significant differences between two groups in those indexes(P 0.05).The time of glycemic control was shorter in group A than that in group B(P 0.05).The dosage of insulin was less in group A than that in group B(P 0.05).The incidence of hypoglycemia was less in group A than that group B(P 0.01).Conclusion The intensive treatment with insulin detemir combined with Insulin Aspart is similar to that with Novolin R combined with Novolin N for type 2 diabetes patients on the efficacy, but is quicker in glycemic control, less in dosage of insulin and lower in the risk of hypoglycemia.
