Herpesviridae family with pathogenicity in humans comprises the herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2, varicella-zoster, herpes virus B, the herpesvirus 6, 7 and 8 and Epsein-Barr virus and cytome-galovirus. They produce mucocutaneous infections like herpes and genital sores, chickenpox, shingles and sudden rash of worldwide distribution, with special impact on morbidity by frequent recurrences. They can be an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised subjects. In recurrent or disseminated cases antivirals are useful.
