Overview on Mathematical Models of Aeolian Sand Ripples

Aeolian sand ripple is the most basic geomorphic type by wind.With rapid development of computer technology,the mathematical simulation of aeolian sand ripples has attracted attention increasingly.This paper introduces the theoretical basis of modeling and simulation for aeolian sand ripples,and then the existing models are divided into three types according their hypothesis conditions.Some classic models are introduced and analyzed in great detail.Furthermore,two basic conditions of modeling for aeolian sand ripples are given:the changes of reptation sediment flux caused by surface slope and the rule of saltation length changes according to the height of sand bed.Finally,the new developments and directions are reviewed and prospected.
