Model for the calculation of kinematic roughness in the tooth root

Abstract For the design of power transmissions, an increase in power density is necessary. This development leads to higher requirements on the tooth root design with high load capacity. In addition to optimizing the load and stress distribution by adapting the tooth root geometry, the load capacity of the gears can be increased by optimizing the workpiece surfaces. For this reason, a model for predicting the geometric deviations due to kinematics in the tooth root and their influence on the roughness is to be developed. With this model, the ideal roughness resulting from the process kinematics of hobbing can be predicted and used for process design.
