Situação vacinal antipneumocócica em pacientes com diabetes atendidos em hospital de referência no Distrito Federal, Brasil

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the antipneumococcal vaccination of patients with diabetes treated in a reference unit in the Federal District, the knowledge of the doctors about that and the impact of the orientation on the rate of adherence to vaccination. Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study. Data collection by medical records of patients with DM admitted with pneumonia or accompanied at the outpatient clinic. Application of questionnaire to evaluate medical knowledge about vaccination in people with DM. Results and conclusion: Only 12.1% of the patients with DM and pneumonia reported anti pneumococcal vaccination, 69.7% denied and 18.2% didn’t know their existence, with a significant lack of knowledge of the doctors about. At the outpatient level, there was an increase in vaccinations from 3% to 21%, and from 10.3% to 68.9% at 12 months of follow-up. Conclusion: Awareness measures have increased the vaccine index considerably.
