Simple Nuclear Reactions on Ca$sup 48$ Induced by High Energy Protons; PROSTYE VADERNYE REAKTSII NA Ca$sup 48$ POD DEISTVIEM PROTONOV VYSOKIKH ENERGII

1962
The reactions (p,pn), (p,2n), and (p,n) on Ca/sup 48/ were investigated in the proton energy range of 120 to 660 Mev. The cross section for (p,pn) reaction is weakly dependent on the proton energy and amounts to 105 mbs. The cross sections for (p,2n) and (p,n) reactions increase with the proton energy from ~20 and ~8 mbs at 120 Mev down to ~6 and ~2 mbs at 660 Mev, respectively. The dependencies of the ratios sigma /sub p,2n// sigma /sub p,n/ and sigma /p,n/ sigma /sub,n/ on the proton en ergy and on the mass number of the nucleus target was determined. The mechanisms of (p,n) reaction and of the first stage of (p,2n) are the same. The contribution of the direct neutron knocking to the cross section of (p,pn) reaction prevails in the proton energy range of the order of hundreds of Mev. (auth)
