Case 51-1962

1962
Presentation of Case A forty-nine-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of epistaxis. A year and a half previously a chronic brownish nasal discharge, with nasal congestion and obstruction, developed. Intermittent, spontaneous, often profuse and prolonged epistaxis began nine months before entry; it was associated with pain in the bridge of the nose and right upper nasomaxillary region, and the bleeding was usually more severe on the right side. The symptoms were progressive in severity and frequency and were not benefited by local therapy or by systemic antibiotic therapy. No loss of weight, melena, cough, hemoptysis or hematemesis occurred. . . .
