Chronic Disease Status and Its Relevance to Risk Factors in Xihu District,Nanchang City,2011

Objective To investigate the spectrum of chronic disease among residents in Xihu District,Nanchang City,and to find the key points for disease control and prevention through analyzing the risk factors for chronic diseases,and to provide a scientific basis for making disease control strategies.Methods Data were collected by multi-stage sampling.Three streets were chosen at the first stage of sample selection with probability proportional to size(PPS) and one community was chosen by simple random sampling in each street.Cluster survey was performed among community residents.Data were analyzed with two-classification-dependent-variable Logistic regression(SPSS 17.0).Results The prevalence of chronic diseases was 22.9%(602/2 631) among residents in Xihu district.The top five chronic disease spectrums were hypertension,diabetes mellitus,coronary disease,hyperlipidemia,and bone structure and density disorders.Unconditional Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors for chronic diseases included male,older,lower degree of education,high monthly income,less daily sleep time,introversion,high salt intake,family history of hypertension,coronary disease and diabetes mellitus,irregular diet,smoking,and obesity.Conclusion Chronic diseases should be controlled and managed according to the chronic disease characteristics and the related risk factors in combination with the primary prevention "risk factor control",the secondary prevention "patient treatment" and the third prevention "promotion rehabilitation" in Xihu District.
