A case of polyneuropathy is diagnosed in a patient presenting with polytrauma in the surgical intensive care unit. This pathology belongs to the, newly described entity as critical illness polyneuropathy. The clinical presentation of this disease is represented by muscular weakness (responsible of difficulty in mechanical ventilation weaning) and muscle wasting. CIP occurs in patients presenting with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) often accompanied with sepsis or/and multiple organ failure (MOF). The clinical diagnosis is difficult because the non-specific presentation of the disease. Therefore, the electroneuromyography is important for diagnosis. The outcome of disease is progressive improvement within a period of few weeks. Prognosis is good.
