Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) affects tens of millions of individuals in the USA, resulting in substantial economic and noneconomic costs [1, 2]. The understanding of disease mechanisms in CRS, as well as its impact on society, has undergone significant paradigm shifts in recent decades. This chapter presents a comprehensive review of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of CRS, highlighting recent developments and current controversies in the field.
