The elements of metabolic syndrome in patients with subclinical hypothireoidismus

2016
Recently many authors are questioning the existing of elements of metabolic syndrome (MetSy) in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SH). In this cross sectional study we observed elements of MetSy, in newly diagnosed patients with SH,and try to find relationships beetwen them. Seventy females participated in study. Among them there were fifty patients with SH, and twenty controls without SH. We devided patients after OGTT in two groups, one with Diabetes mellitus typ2(DMT2), and the other one without DMT2. For statitistical calculations we used EXCEL, MedCalc and SPSS programs. Results: The patients were older then controls, they had higher levels of weist (W) and BMI(Body mass index). In the group of patients we found significantly higher percent of hypertension 62%, DMT2,36%, and among them 14% newly diagnosed DMT2. In the control group there were no DM. In the patients group, we found higher levels of TSH, anti TPOAb, and lower levels of FT4. Concentration of glucose and HgA1c were higher among the patients. We did not find statistical significance in HOMA and insulinemia. We found that there was correlation between the concentration of glucose and TSH in patients group, but not in the controls. The prevalence of MetSy is 25 % in controls, and 62 % in patients. Considering the results of our study we recommend determination of glucose levelsin every patient whom we diagnosed SH, and vice versa, in patients with DMT2, TSH and FT4 is needed. We also recommend treatment of SH by the established rools, because together with MetSythey have a higher risk for developing of cardiovascular event.
