Carbon Nanotube Hybrid Materials

2019
Abstract Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are promising engendering material due to their properties. Among the different synthesis methods, gas-phase pyrolysis method has advantages in scaling up the material production. In this method, the carbon nanotubes are synthesized in a multiphysics environment, involving chemical reaction, heat transfer, fluid flow, and electromagnetic phenomena. The property of the synthesized product depends on the nanotube quality and the assembly morphology. Moreover, the product property can be tailored by incorporating external materials into the carbon nanotube matrix. For example, activated carbon and copper particles can be added to produce carbon nanotube hybrid material. These hybrid materials have enhanced functionalities and possess multifunctional capability. This chapter discusses the multiphysics phenomena during the gas-phase production of carbon nanotube and related hybrid material.
