The Coronary Circulation: Limitations of Current Concepts of Metabolic Control

Experimental data indicate the metabolic theory of flow regulation has difficulties explaining long-term adjustments of coronary circulation to chronic hypofusion. Evidence is reviewed supporting the hypothesis that chronic adjustments could involve changes in structural or regulatory proteins participating in vascular smooth muscle contraction.
