Excel drug-eluting stents reduced long term restenosis rate in patients with coronary heart disease combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus

2011
Objective To evaluate the 12 month safety and restenosis rates of Excel drug eluting stents in patients with coronary heart disease combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods Three hundred and ninety-five patients with consecutive coronary heart combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus underwent PCI for the first time during March 2006 to September 2009 were enrolled in this study.Among the 395 patients,223 cases were implanted Excel stents and others were implanted bare metal stents(BMS).The frequency of major adverse cardiac events, restenosis rate and other clinical situation were observed during hospitalization and 12-month follow-up period.Result The restenosis rate during 12-month follow-up in Excel group was significantly lower than that in BMS group(8.3% vs 36.5%,P0.01),and the frequency of major adverse cardiac events(MACE) was also lower than that in BMS(8.0% vs 16.1%,P0.01).Conclusion Excel drug eluting stents embedding is more safety for the treatment in coronary heart disease patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, which can significantly reduce the long-term restenosis rate.
