2019
Irisin is an adipomyokine that is produced by both muscle mass and white adipose tissue. Based on many studies, irisin correlates significantly with fasting insulin, fasting glucose, HOMA-IR index, etc. The study groups include patients with diagnosed di abetes mellitus type 1, 2 or pre-diabetes. Irisin concentration may be a predictive marker for both diabetes mellitus type 2 and gestational diabetes mellitus. However, the results of many studies are not clear, and thus further research needs to be conducted. This article contains a review of studies on the role of irisin in carbohydrate metabolism disorders such as insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes mellitus type 1, 2, and gestational diabetes mellitus.
