Ultrasonography todiagnose andexclude intussusception inHenoch-Schonlein purpura

painisafrequent symptominthe child withHenoch-Schonlein purpura and raises thesuspicion ofintussusception orper- foration. Onehundred andfifty twochildren with adiagnosis ofHenoch-Schonlein purpura over11years werereviewed. Ofthese 60had abdominal pain, 19gastrointestinal bleeding, andnineweresuspected intussusception. Intussusception wasconfirmed intwoofthese cases withultrasonography. Ultrasound isanimportant tool intheearly diagnosis ofintussusception complicating Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Wheretheintus- susception appears loose anexpectant policy, withcareful monitoring, mayallowsponta- neousreduction. Itmay alsobeusedin monitoring patients forpostoperative recurr- enceofintussusception, muralhaematoma, anduncomplicated intestinal vasculitis with oedema.
