Computer simulation of carbonate platform

A computer program called CARBOSIM has been coded in QBASIC for use in a classroom environment to aid in the teaching of carbonate sedimentation. CAEBOSIM simulates the development of carbonate platforms with four factors: (1) subsidence, (2) eustatic sea-level change, (3) carbonate production, and (4) sediment removal/distribution. Simulated profiles are displayed on-screen, thus allowing the student to visualize the changes in stratigraphy, resulting from changes in the values of the variables associated with each of the four factors. QBASIC is an easy-to-learn computer language, which makes it convenient for the user to modify or refine CARBOSIM, a pedagogically oriented simulation program. Three graphic displays illustrating various depositional scenarios are given.
