Intensive Care for HIV Infected Patients: The View from Brussels St Pierre Hospital

1990
The role of ICU management in HIV infected patients is not easy to define. In the earlier stage of the epidemic, the very high mortality of the patients in spite of aggressive resuscitation technique, has led the AIDS physicians to consider ICU admission with reluctance. By now, a change in attitude has occured, and is mostly due to the improved prognosis and the lower morbidity of HIV infection when Zidovudine (AZT) therapy is possible.
