Relationship between ankle-brachial index and urinary albumin to creatinine ratio in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

2011
Objective To investigate the relationship between ankle-brachial index(ABI) and urinary albumin to creatinine ratio(UACR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods From January 2009 to January 2011,a total of 469 type 2 diabetic patients were enrolled. The ABI,UACR and other related indexes were measured.Thirty-eight healthy subjects served as controls. Results In all 469 patients, the prevalence of urinary protein was 62.7%;the prevalence of abnormal ABI 42.6%.Prevalence of abnormal ABI was 41.4%,23.2% and 14.9% in the clinical,micro-and normal albuminuria.Prevalence of urinary protein was 45.2%,31.5% and 22.7% in the patients with ABI≤0.9,ABI1.3,and ABI 0.9-1.3.Multiple variables analysis showed that the influence factors for the occurrence of lower extremity arterial lesions in diabetes mellitus patients were age, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol,HbA1C,UACR and GFR(P0.05).Conclusions The diabetes mellitus patients with abnormality of ABI usually have a high prevalence of increased ACR.ABI is also affected by age, blood glucose, blood lipids, and blood pressure.
