Feasibility Study on the Transplantation of Human Umbilical Cord Cells via Peripheral Veins in the Patients with Alcoholic Cirrhosis

2010
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of transplantation of human umbilical cord mesenchymalstem stem cells(HUCMSCs) through peripheral veins in treatment of transplantation.MethodsTen patients who had alcoholic cirrhosis received translation of HUCMSCs.The levels of serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),total bilirubin(TB),prothrombin time(PT) and albumin(ALB) were examined before and after transplantation(1,2,4,8,12 weeks).Simultaneously the improvement of clinic syndrome was also observed after transplantation.ResultsSignificant improvement(P0.05) was found two weeks later. There were significant differences eight weeks and twelve weeks later(P0.01).Twelve weeks after transplantation ascite was reduced obviously in eight patients(eighty percent) and vanished in two patients.Debility and appetite were improved in eight patients(eighty percent) and seven patients(seventy five percent). No patient developed severe complications and adverse reaction associated with transplantation.ConclusionCulture in vitro and extension transplantation of HUCMSCs via peripheral veins is a safe and effective therpy. It can significantly improve the indexes of liver function and clinical symptoms in the patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. It indicated at the same time that it has special effects in the transplantation of HUCMSCs in the patients with alcoholic cirrhosis compare with patients with hepatic cirrhosis after virus hepatitis.
