Treatment with Aclasta in postmenopausal osteoporosis rats

2010
Objective:To study the treating effect of Aclasta on rat postmenopausal osteoporosis. Methods:Sixteen rats models of postmenopausal osteoporosis were established by removing two ovaries of the rats. They were randomly divided into group A and B,with 8 rats each. The rats in group A were administrated with Aclasta, and the rats in group B were not treated.Eight normal female rats were chosen as the controls(group C).Bone density, serum osteocalcin, osteprotegerin and osteprotegerin ligand were assessed after 12 weeks. Results:The bone density in group A was significantly higher than that in group B(P 0.01),while the serum osteocalcin level and the ratio of osteprotegerin ligand/osteprotegerin were significantly decreased in group A(P 0.01).Conclusion:Application of Aclasta has a good therapeutic effect on rat postmenopausal osteoporosis, which may be related to decreasing serum osteocalcin level and the ratio of osteprotegerin ligand/osteprotegerin.
